Al Atawlah Heritage Village

About the Event
Al-Atawlah Heritage Village is one of the oldest historical settlements in the northern Al‑Baha region. Perched on a hill overlooking the regional road between Taif and Al‑Baha—about 30 km from Al‑Baha city—it serves as a strategic meeting point for the southern areas of the Kingdom. Founded over 900 years ago, the village comprises some 29 heritage buildings made of local granite and basalt, with wooden roofs coated in clay. These structures stand resilient through the centuries, testifying to the beauty of traditional regional architecture. At its center lies the historic Al-Atawlah Mosque, one of Al‑Baha’s oldest, alongside the towering Dumas Fortress (18 m high) and the Al‑Othman Fortress (14 m high). The weekly “Rubūʿ Quraysh” market once served as both a commercial and social hub, and other notable buildings include the old Al-Atawlah school and the village diwan (guest hall). Today, under the care of the Al‑Baha Emirate and the Ministry of Tourism, the village has been restored and certified as a tourist destination. It hosts the annual Al-Atawlah Heritage Festival and offers cultural and entertainment programs through the Local Development Association, preserving its legacy and enriching every visitor’s experience.
